What a Pool Really Costs in Czechia

If you own a house or weekend property in Czechia and you're pricing up a pool, the first thing you'll notice is how reluctant local builders are to put a number on anything before they've seen your plot. That's fair - the terrain, access and soil all matter - but it leaves foreign owners with no baseline to judge a quote against. Here are the real ranges we see, so you know roughly what to expect before the first company walks your garden.

Three pool types, three price bands

The figures below are for a typical 7×3 m in-ground pool with basic equipment (filtration, piping, skimmer, lighting), including excavation and the concrete base:

Prefabricated polypropylene shells that get lowered into the ground and backfilled can come in cheaper still, from around CZK 350,000 including setting. With these, the quality of the base and the backfill around the shell matters more than with any other type - money saved here has a habit of coming back as a repair bill.

What pushes the price up or down

Plot access. If an excavator and concrete mixer truck can get straight to the dig site, you'll pay noticeably less than if soil has to be wheelbarrowed across the garden. This is the single biggest reason two quotes for the "same" pool can differ so much.
Shell type. Liner on a steel frame is the cheapest route in; a cast reinforced concrete shell finished with tiling or a liner is the most expensive - and the most durable.
How much technology you add. A counter-current swim jet (from roughly CZK 60,000), salt water treatment, automatic dosing or filtration automation can easily add CZK 200,000 to a quote.
Soil removal. A 7×3 m pool typically generates 40-60 m³ of spoil. Some quotes quietly leave this out - ask to see it as its own line item before you compare prices.

Running costs: what to budget per year

The purchase price is only part of the picture. For an outdoor 7×3 m pool, plan for roughly CZK 15,000-30,000 a year in running costs - electricity for the filtration pump and heat pump, water treatment chemicals, top-up water, and the occasional worn part. A retractable enclosure cuts this noticeably, since it holds both heat and cleanliness better than an open pool.

Why quotes can differ by 15-30%

It's completely normal for two companies to quote a difference of hundreds of thousands of crowns on what looks like the same pool. The usual reasons: different technology included as standard, different items tucked into "extras" (soil removal, electrical work, landscaping), and simply how busy the company is - a fully booked contractor prices accordingly.
